Hurdles to Building an Online Business
For Nathalie, the most common obstacle is knowing what to do and where to invest in your time. Often the hardest part is getting a business off the ground, and when Nathalie and her husband were launching their company she often asked herself, “Am I spending my time on the right stuff?” This led her to seek support from coaches and Masterminds.
Finding Success in Online Business
For Nathalie, success looks like living life with freedom and money to provide a lifestyle for her children that she is proud of. In her business, Nathalie sets concrete financial goals that are specific and measurable.
“You have to have the right mindset. No none can do that for you. You have to do the work. You can’t buy success.”
Like many entrepreneurs, Nathalie and her husband began with the goal of building to six figures. This is a great goal, but for a lot of people that’s not enough to have the freedom and lifestyle that you want after accounting for the costs of running a business. For 2019, Nathalie’s goal is to more than double their business revenue. She and her team have the mindset, coaching, and business strategy in place to make that happen.
Why Do Online Businesses Fail
Nathalie sees business owners fail when they are into entrepreneurship because it’s trendy and not because they have a strong why. Having a business is no easy feat, and for Nathalie it’s essential to have the commitment and network of accountability in place to stay with it during rocky times.
“When you hit a wall, run towards the resistance. That’s where you need to spend more of your time. You have to go through the long journey – there aren’t simple easy steps.”
Moving Your Business Forward
How can you move your business forward? Nathalie urges her clients to look at the numbers. What are you selling and how much are you making per sale? How many sales will it take to meet your goal? Break that amount down by month, week, and day. Every day you need to be doing tasks that get you closer to that target number.
Nathalie’s Pro Tips:
Get guidance early.
“We were busy but not working on the right stuff. We had to make a decision – do we get help or do we go find a job? I didn’t know what I didn’t know, I had to ask someone for help.”
Nathalie quickly realized that to grow her business she needed to invest in herself through Masterminds and coaches. It was important for her to recognize that she didn’t have all the answers to grow to the next level. Personal development is just as important as business strategy – especially for entrepreneurs!
Set financial goals and map out a concrete strategy to get there.
Goals don’t have to be overwhelming, they can be exciting. You have to tap into what motivates you. If you say you’re not about the money, what are you about? What is your why? If you want to help people, more money will allow you to do that.
“Money is just a tool. You have the freedom to choose what you want to do with it, including re-investing in your business to make a bigger impact.”
Let yourself be known for who you are to attract your ideal clients.
Start talking about your expertise and passion via Facebook lives or social media posts, and see what kind of audience you naturally attract. Understand what your audience needs, then create a course or product to address their pain point. It’s vital to build to those first 100 followers, then survey them to see what they want from you. Consider tapping into other people’s audiences too by being a podcast guest or blog contributor.
Get away from your desk.
Networking has also been vital to Nathalie’s continued growth. If you need to work out issues in your business strategy and overall vision, get away from your desk! Go to a meetup, sit at a cafe, or spend time in nature. You have to constantly ask yourself, is what I am doing making me happy? Am I reaching my goals?
