How Growth Mindset can Increase Your Productivity (and Sales)

Let’s check in on your growth mindset.

Business got you feeling like you’re barely surviving?

Or, struggling with the day to day tasks and can’t find the way out of this rut (enter cringe-worthy thought swirling through your head, why am I even doing this)?

Breakthrough coach, Tara Wagner, shares some hard love in this episode and dives deep into growth mindset. It’s time you had the tools to break through those roadblocks (and had a plan for roadblocks in the future–she’s got your back).

Heads up: You’ll have lots of “a-ha’s”, so fair warning if you’re listening at the gym or in a public space…

This episode is for you if:

  • You’re struggling with inner thoughts about not being good enough
  • You feel drained of energy on a daily basis trying to do all the things
  • You’re ready to take care of yourself like you do for your clients

“My mindset had ruined my first business. Like, totally destroyed it.”

If you’re anything like me, in the past when I would hear the word “growth mindset” and think, oh that’s woo woo stuff. It’s not for me (I literally thought this).

… And then I started an online business.

It’s ALL mindset.

As women entrepreneurs, there is definitely a stigma on the way that we should carry and conduct ourselves. Part of Tara’s breakthrough coaching involves showing females that they do not have to act like men to be successful. It’s okay to let go of the conditioning, the way females have been taught to feel guilty and really own your self-worth.

Pro Tip: Guess what? Nothing matters if it doesn’t align with who you are.

“I want to see more money in the hands of good people who want to do good with it.”

There is a mindset that in order to be successful, you have to do XYZ. Whether XYZ is work 16-hour days, charge less than what you should, neglect your self-care, and so on… this isn’t the case.

While yes, you may have to hustle a bit in the startup of your business, success is not defined by 16-hour workdays and neglecting your personal life.

Do I REALLY have to focus on my mindset to grow my business?

Absolutely! Our mindset effects everything we think and do.

If you have the “I’m not good enough” mentality your body language and your voice will showcase those inner thoughts even if you are saying the same things you would if you were 100% confident in what you bring to the table.

One of my favorite points that Tara shares is related to strategies within your business. You may have the perfect systems in place, yet your systems have started to have roadblocks. This is the time to take a step back and truly evaluate the situation. Most likely, it’s a mindset shift that needs to occur. You could be putting the wrong focus on the wrong part of your business.

How to use Growth Mindset to Bust through These Two Roadblocks:

1. Money

2. Time

Money Roadblock Example #1: Charge What You’re Worth

If you’re in the creative industry or just dabbling into it, you are bound to hear this common phrase. Charge what you’re worth. The reason this phrase could be hindering you from making all that you’re worth is because we base our “worth” on our our mindset of our self-worth, not based on the worth of the service we offer.

The phrase could also be a roadblock because if you. are truly confident in all that you offer, but you are charging way over what your target market would be willing to spend, then. you will also lose out on securing contract.

“Your job is to figure out your clients and figure out their budget and then figure out a way that you can still hit your financial goals while honoring their budget.”

Money Roadblock Example #2: But I’m Here to Help People

As creatives, we are here to help people and often that can reflect into how we charge for our services. You might feel dishonest to be charing what you do to help someone, but you. are not being dishonest.

Tara reminds us in the podcast that first responders, police officers, etc. they still get a paycheck to help people. We cannot help others if we are not taking care of ourselves first. (Say the last sentence aloud!)

Time Roadblock Example: I Just Don’t Have Enough Time

We all have the same 24-hours in a day. Our responsibility is to evaluate our day and see where we can delegate tasks that aren’t good for our headspace. Not to say the work is bad, but it distracts us from the true tasks at hand that we need to be invested in.

Tara shares how Beyonce has the same 24 hours that you and I have. Yes, she has a team in place to assist her with her daily routine, but guess what? You can, too!

“There are so many examples of ways you can get things done, but your mindset will stop you from doing things if you’re not cautious of it.”

How do you exit a roadblock if you find yourself in the midst of one?

It is going to vary on the person and what they. are dealing with, but Tara shares four steps she recommends.

1. Understand Your Patterns + Identify Your Red Flags

If you can come to a realization of what usually happens right before you enter a roadblock, you. can redirect. your mindset and actions.

2. Let It Run Its Course

Depending on how far you are into your roadblock, you. may just have to let it run its course like a common cold. Power through it and learn from it.

3. Have a Steady Daily Mindset Practice

Take the time to focus on mind, body and soul. What beliefs are you having? What are your goals? What are your challenges? Identify the answers and understand how you can reflect on each to better improve your state of mind, providing you peace of mind.

4. Take a Nap

Sometimes all you really need to do is take a break. Don’t make yourself feel guilty for just needing a good ole nap.

“I’ve designed my entire schedule around being able to serve myself first so that when I go into my coaching calls or I go into my group calls, I really have enough to give to other people.”

What can I do for my mindset right now while still growing my business?

Define your why and identify your goal.

Why do you really want to do this? Why is it important? What is the specific goal you are wanting to accomplish? How do you want to feel and how do you want to make others feel?

Wrap-Up Pro Tip: While talking all about a healthy mindset, remember it’s okay to still have bad days as long as you take those bad days and learn from them and use them for good.
