Show Notes:
Have you ever felt frustrated as you scoured the internet for answers to your business questions?
Building websites found Ferdy in this exact position, so he built a successful business solving the problem.
He began his Youtube channel in 2015 with the goal of creating a comprehensive, one-stop shop for website building tutorials.
Three year later, he has over 60,000 followers and a thriving online business.
What were your obstacles to beginning your business?
A good friend of Ferdy’s told him that his idea was ludicrous and didn’t believe in it. Ferdy’s first reaction was, he’s probably right…
He held off on his business endeavor only to find that it was an incredibly lucrative idea down the road.
Another obstacle, Ferdy shared, was his English as a second language. Being from the Netherlands, he found it difficult to translate from Dutch to English in real time.
But, he moved past these obstacles and chose to take the leap.
“The pain of knowing what I can do, but not doing it was so great that I thought, Now I’m doing it, whether it works or not.”
Like you, I’m sure of it, Ferdy started his business during a busy time of life. He was getting married and creating websites for clients, when he stumbled across a WordPress theme that was so user-friendly he could teach it to others. He decided to help people save money by teaching them to build their own sites.
In the beginning, his channel had 20 views per day. However, things changed quickly as he experimented with copy and thumbnails on Youtube. When his viewership grew to 200 daily views, he realized, Wow, I can actually make money with this.
What hurdles did you overcame to grow your business?
“At first I wanted to give everything away for free. I wanted to help people and answer their questions.”
As Ferdy quickly built a following, he was receiving more emails with viewer questions than he had time for. People expect a lot from you when you have a YouTube channel, and he frequently was asked to speak with viewers and answer their specific questions.
Pro tip: Prioritize your time to create the most value for the largest number of people.
Ferdy had to redirect his time and prioritize creating great tutorials that would answer the questions he was receiving and reach more people.
What advice would you give to people who are just starting out?
Persevere in what you are doing and be determined to get everything out of life.
Listen to podcasts. Read books. Fill your mind with inspiring content.
“Don’t just work on your work. Work on yourself, your character, and your beliefs.”
How do you earn income?
Ferdy found affiliate marketing to be his best revenue stream as he moved away from working one-on-one with people. He gets commissions when viewers by products like Elementor, and he provides plenty of free value in his tutorials on how to use the products.
There are a lot of viewers who don’t buy products through him, but there are many people who do. His commissions per sale become higher the more sales he makes.
Ferdy’s audience asks him about services and products they want to know more about. He looks into those suggestions and provides tutorials based on viewer demand.
“Offer value to people. Don’t think, how much can I make. Think, how can I help people?”
What is the best way to make progress toward your next business milestone?
Love what you do. If you are just doing it for money it can become boring. Do something you are really passionate about and keep improving yourself.
Jim Rohn would say work more on yourself. Spend 3 or 4 hours of the work day on self-improvement and the rest working.
“If you develop yourself, everything else will flow from that.”
